    Vanessa Laine Bryant (née Vanessa Cornejo Urbieta) was born on May 5, 1982, in California.

    Her parents, who were of Mexican descent, divorced when she was young, leaving Vanessa deeply affected. She remained with her mother until 1990, when her mother remarried. At this time, Vanessa legally changed her surname to Laine, despite feeling unsupported by her stepfather.
